TIME Magazine Names Purshade in Top 50 Best Inventions of 2008
SPF 45 Sunscreen for Crops Protects Against Solar Stress, Enhancing Yield and Quality
Fremont, Calif. – Nov. 4, 2008 – Purfresh, Inc., provider of clean solutions that purify, protect, and preserve our food and water, today announced that TIME Magazine named Purshade™ one of the 50 Best Inventions of the Year. Introduced in July for commercial use, Purshade is scientifically engineered to protect fruits, vegetables and other crops from harmful solar stress. By acting as a sunshield, Purshade enhances crop quality, reduces physical sun damage, and improves water utilization efficiencies.
“Purshade is the result of years of research and experience in the science of solar stress on crops. TIME Magazine’s recognition validates our understanding of the market requirements, and puts a spotlight on the severity of the increasing challenges facing growers around the globe,” said David Cope, president and CEO of Purfresh. “Changing climates, growing populations, an increased focus on food quality, and water scarcities have converged creating an imperative need for Purshade.”
With an SPF rating ten times higher than traditional alternatives, Purshade is specifically engineered to protect the plant from damaging ultraviolet and infrared radiation. The solution forms an even film of millions of microscopic “prisms,” or mirrors to reflect harmful solar rays while letting in photosynthetic light needed for growth and fruit development. The wet concentrate is easy to mix and apply, and washes off with typical post-harvest processing.
