Purfresh Achieves Fifth Consecutive Year of Record Growth for its Ocean Transport Technology
With its new CE mark, Purfresh accelerates production of its new Purfresh Transport system to meet worldwide market adoption
FRUIT LOGISTICA 2012, Berlin–Feb. 8, 2012—, a market leader of ocean transport and supply chain management technologies that optimize the quality and safety of fresh produce as it moves around the world from the farm to the consumer, today announced a 200 percent year-over-year increase in demand for its Purfresh® Transport intelligent cargo protection solution, and the fifth consecutive year of record growth driven in large part by worldwide market adoption. In addition, the Company also announced today the acceleration of production of its Purfresh Transport system, which now displays the CE mark of approval.
"Five consecutive years of record growth for our Purfresh Transport technology reflects our long-standing commitment to revolutionize the shipping industry," said Dr. Brian Westcott, president and CEO of "This achievement validates the need for an advanced, cost-effective ocean transport solution, and comes on the heels of accelerating production of our newest Purfresh Transport system, which displays the CE mark of approval.
"We are constantly working to ensure our Purfresh Transport technology offers the most productive and reliable user experience possible, and the CE mark of approval validates our commitment to the quality and safety standards required by the international marketplace," Dr. Westcott added.
In addition to the substantial increase in demand, in 2011 growers and shippers utilized Purfresh Transport to protect more than double the number of commodities shipped year-over-year for ocean voyages ranging from as short as 7 days to more than 40 days. Access to, and global availability of, the cargo protection technology also expanded significantly with more than 20 of the top ocean carriers across more than 140 ports around the world offering the Purfresh Transport solution to their customers.
"Buyers, including retailers, are experiencing first-hand the benefits of higher quality fresh produce being shipped to and from new geographical import and export markets as shippers are able to reach new markets via longer trade routes with Purfresh Transport," said Mr. David Bouchard. "We're able to safely and effectively protect the quality of the loads for more than 40 days on the water, and as a result, more and more shippers are moving product from air freight and specialty vessels to ocean transport. In addition, to accommodate the increasing worldwide market adoption, we have expanded our global network of partners and added new staff to key regions."
Displaying the latest Purfresh Transport technology, equipped with Intellipur® software informatics, at Fruit Logistica 2012 to be held in Berlin this week, the system now offers improved global communications via GSM and satellite modems, a one-piece AC adapter wiring harness allowing for easier and quicker installation, and the ability to minimize claims with real-time monitoring and tracking of each load.
Engineered with patent-pending intelligent cargo protection technology, Purfresh Transport reduces the risk of cargo loss, enhances food safety, and helps ensure higher-quality arrivals when shipping fresh produce by marine transport. Unlike other approaches—such as temperature recorders, traditional controlled atmosphere and modified atmosphere systems, and fungicides—Purfresh Transport provides full trip transparency along with active atmosphere enhancement to prevent decay, control ripening, and reduce food-borne pathogens.
Purfresh Transport is offered as a service by most major shipping lines.
