Frederick L. A. Grauer, Ph.D.
Chairman

Dr. Grauer is Chairman of the Board of Purfresh, Inc. Dr. Grauer is also chair of the Board of The Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation. Dr. Grauer was for nine years Senior Advisor to Barclays Global Investors and its acquirer, BlackRock, Inc., and was for fifteen years the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Barclays Global Investors and its predecessors. Dr. Grauer is a Trustee of the Commonfund and chairs its Compensation Committee and is a Trustee of the American Century Mountain View Funds and chairs its Risk Management Committee. Previously, Fred was a member of the Management Committee of Barclays plc and a senior executive of Well Fargo Bank with varying responsibilities, as member of its Asset-Liability Committee, EVP and head of its Funding Group and CEO of WFIA. A Woodrow Wilson Fellow, Fred has a Ph.D. from Stanford University and was a professor at M.I.T. and Columbia University. Global Custodian Magazine recognized Fred as one of the 100 most important contributors to modern finance in the 20th century. His not-for-profit focus is on education, is an Advisor to the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research, and was formerly a Trustee of Menlo School and the Monterey Institute of International Studies.

Brian Westcott, Ph.D.
President and Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Brian Westcott is president and chief executive officer of Purfresh. A results-oriented leader with more than 25 years of experience in operations, strategic management, and corporate development for both Fortune 500 and early stage companies, Dr. Westcott joined Purfresh to build upon the Company's leadership position and growth.

In academic and business circles alike, Dr. Westcott is a thought leader in strategic innovation. He has published and lectured in the areas of leadership, business policy, technology strategy, company change programs, product development, and operations management. His case studies on technology management are published through Harvard Business School and Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Before joining Purfresh, Dr. Westcott held management positions for JDS Uniphase, Inc., Inogen, Inc., AT Kearney, and General Electric, Inc. Dr. Westcott was the first Post Doctoral Fellow at Stanford's GSB, earned a Ph.D. in management science and a master's degree in mechanical engineering from Stanford University, and holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Lehigh University. Mr. Westcott was recognized as a Hero of U.S. Manufacturing by Fortune Magazine, and was the founder of Westt, Inc., ranked #34 fastest growing company in America by Inc. Magazine.

Paul A. Hall, Ph.D.
Board Member

Dr. Hall joined the board of directors in 2007. He is a world-renowned expert in the microbiological safety and stability of foods and beverages. Most recently, Dr. Hall was vice president of global food safety for ConAgra Foods, Inc. Prior to ConAgra, he was vice president of global business development for Matrix MicroScience Inc., and was with Kraft Foods Global for nearly 17 years. Previous experience includes Anheuser Busch Companies, Inc. and Ralston Purina Company's Central Research Division.

Dr. Hall is past president of the International Association for Food Protection and has been actively involved with various professional organizations and institutes, including the International Life Sciences Institute, the University of Georgia Center for Food Safety, the National Center for Food Safety and Technology, the Institute of Food Technologists, the American Society for Microbiology, the Food Products Association and the International Dairy Foods Association.

Jeb Miller
Board Member

Mr. Miller joined Purfresh’s board of directors in 2010. He is a General Partner at Jafco Ventures, and has over fifteen years of experience working with early-stage technology companies as a venture capitalist, operating executive and investment banker. Mr. Miller has relentless energy and is passionate about teaming with entrepreneurs to help build successful companies. He also serves as a consultant to the Defense Venture Catalyst Initiative program of the US Department of Defense.

Mr. Miller’s venture capital career began with Morgan Stanley Technology Ventures, a corporate venture group he co-founded in 2001. He then further developed his venture investing skills with two leading venture capital firms, three years as a Partner with ComVentures and three years as a Principal with Worldview Technology Partners. Prior to joining Jafco Ventures, Mr. Miller was with the Silicon Valley office of The Carlyle Group focused on technology investing. He also gained valuable operating experience as Managing Director of Business Development for Scient, a pioneering Internet consulting firm. Mr. Miller began his career with Morgan Stanley's technology investment banking groups in New York, Boston and Menlo Park. In addition, Mr. Miller is on the board of TRUSTe and World Golf Tour and actively involved with Aster Data Systems, Attributor, Devicescape, FireEye, Ocarina Networks, Oodle and VuClip. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Harvard College where he graduated summa cum laude and played water polo.

Mike Sherman
Board Member

Mr. Sherman joined Purfresh's board of directors in 2007. He is Partner with Chrysalix Energy Venture Capital and has more than 10 years experience in finance and strategic planning with early stage clean technology and growth companies. Mr. Sherman helped found Chrysalix in 2001, one of the first early stage venture capital firms to focus exclusively on cleantech and alternative energy investing. Prior to joining Chrysalix, Mike worked in strategic planning with Starbucks Coffee Company's Corporate Business Alliances group, developing and supporting Starbucks joint venture businesses, licensed concepts, and growth strategies. He has experience working in Canada, the United States, and the Netherlands. He is also a Partner in the BC Technology Social Venture Partnership, a charitable foundation created by individuals in BC's technology industries, that supports innovative non-profit charitable investing combined with active Partner mentoring. Currently Mr. Sherman is Chairman of the board of ReliOn Inc. and is an observer on the board of Lilliputian Systems. He holds an Honors Bachelor of Business Administration from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario.

Warren Weiss
Board Member

Mr. Weiss joined the board of directors in 2004. He currently works for Foundation Capital, focusing primarily on investments in emerging software companies—both licensed and software as a service—as well as the clean tech industry. Catching emerging technologies and superstar entrepreneurs early is Mr. Weiss’s passion. His close ties with leading universities and research labs give him a window into innovations in their purest form, and he cherishes the chance to work with the smartest minds in business, whether first-timers or Nobel-Prize winners. His involvement with on-demand software and clean tech companies began years before investing in those areas became a mainstream event.

Mr. Weiss has over 25 years experience in the software industry, including president and CEO of four public and private software companies. Prior to joining Foundation Capital, he was president and CEO of Asera, a real-time software solutions provider. Before Asera, Mr. Weiss served as president and CEO with Prism Solutions during the company's transition from data warehousing tools provider to business intelligence application deliverer. Prior, he was president of SQRIBE Technologies (now Hyperion) and earlier, president and CEO of SMI. Mr. Weiss has held numerous other senior executive positions at Next Software (Apple), Continuum (Computer Sciences Corporation), and Dun & Bradstreet Software. In addition to Purfresh, Mr. Weiss currently serves on the boards of eMeter.com, Guardian Analytics, InterAct, MarkMonitor, Moxie Software, Purfresh, Quantivo, Rearden Commerce, SilkRoad Technologies, and Silver Spring Networks. Mr. Weiss holds a BS from Western Illinois University.

Edward Zane
Board Member

Mr. Zane joined Purfresh's board of directors in 2011.  He works for Chilton Investment Company as a Vice President of Research focusing on small capitalization companies.  He has several years of private equity experience and prior to joining Chilton Investment Company, Mr. Zane worked at Bain Capital.  Mr. Zane holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from The Wharton School of the University Pennsylvania and a Master of Business Administration from Stanford Graduate School of Business.
